I am bored, and I want to know all the things. I want to puzzle through them, and that moment when everything seems impossible to understand causing the mind and soul to despair… that is my cup of tea. I think we are intentionally ill equipped to know anything, and puzzling is that much more fun for it. I am a Christian. I think the photo above is silly. I read way too much Hemingway. I want to go to Paris and Africa. Yes, one of those is a city and the other is a continent.
I graduated college with a liberal arts degree during the worst of the recession, and the only work I could find was work at an ice cream shop. When I finally moved up in the world, I found a job at a coffee shop. This was a great time in my life. I worked at the hippest coffee shop in town and every know-it-all in a 30 mile radius made this place their home. I met so many people who did not think like I did. Sometimes I felt like I was one of the guys who happened to be talking in the village square when Socrates rolled up with a ton of questions. Most of the time I used my knowledge of Star Wars and Family Guy to choral the residents of the coffee shop back to a topic that was suitable for peaceful conversation. I mopped a lot of floors, and I don’t know how I ate. I made so little. It was a blast.
I have been forced to get a job that pays me in money instead of paying me in espresso. I preferred being paid in espresso, and I liked the work better. I liked having pretentious conversations with pretentious people all the time. Most pretentious people don’t know they are being pretentious. Some of them know and they are hoping to keep it up till something good sticks. Our whole society is based on a fake-it-till-you-make-it model, and as such, pretentiousness is an expected transitional phase for anyone with aspirations. I have aspirations.
I want to be a writer. I want to be a thinker. I want to be the kind of thinker that changed the game, but all I have is this blog. Please read it. Some of it is funny. It is about, the way my thoughts get along with the thoughts of others. Enjoy.
Here are the types of article you should expect to see on this blog:
-Commentary on news events or ideas that show up in the blogosphere.
-Short stories from my life that brought about a new way of thinking.
-Interesting thoughts I find in books or conversation
-Interviews with normal people. I might someday interview a strange person, but normal people are strange enough. These interviews may not always tell the person’s identity. I would like to tell their story. Normal people are the most fascinating kind of person since they are the only kind there is….mostly.
-This blog is about thoughts and the warbled lives they lead.
